Youth Ambassadors Rewarded

YTAs nationwide are delivering campaigns to inspire walking and cycling to school, deliver important road safety messages, promote responsible behavior during travel and provide people with skills and confidence to travel safely and independently.

The Well-being Council/Youth Travel Ambassadors have been working on a project to change behaviour of PMS students on the buses.

On March 9th students pitched their ideas for a project to benefit our school and the community to a 'dragon's den' panel of experts at Greenwich PDC as part of the multi school event Campaign Junction 2017 organised by TfL.

This provided an excellent opportunity for the Plumstead Manor team to build their confidence, active citizenship skills and develop their knowledge about sustainability.  It also enabled the young people in our community to look at travel in the world around them and to develop a project to benefit our school and the wider community.

Plumstead Manor students were awarded £250 to continue with their project.  Their slogan, 'Don't take the bus, it's too much fuss'.  Our Travel Ambassadors will be encouraging the school community to walk rather than take the bus for short distances.

There will be a badge design competition to promote the project.  Through this, they hope to reduce the number of students using local buses and stop bus overcrowding.

The message will go out through assemblies to all year groups - including the Sixth Form.
