Planning for Hot Weather

During the summer term we do experience warm weather during the school day from time to time. We want to be clear about how we wish to make sure that students are safe and happy, while also making sure we run an orderly and calm school.

Thus, we thought we’d be clear about what we do allow, and what we don’t, during hot weather:

We do allow:

We don’t allow:

  •  Students to have water bottles with them to drink, and to fill them from the water fountains around school.
  • We do sell a range of refreshing drinks at break and lunch, and from time to time ‘ice lollies’ so that students can keep hydrated and cool. They must consume them at lunchtime or break time and cannot take them to lessons.
  • Students to take off their jumpers and blazers so that they don’t get too hot.

  • Students to fill their water bottles in the middle of lessons.
  • Students to bring in their own ‘ice lollies’ to school in the morning. These items are not allowed in school.
  • Students to bring in fizzy drinks or energy drinks.
  • Students to wear flip-flops, sliders or trainers
  • Students to wear t-shirts and shorts.

We would also recommend that students wear something to cover their head to and from school, such as a hat, but they are not allowed to wear these around school during the day.   It is also recommended that if students need to wear sun protection cream that they bring this themselves to apply. The school does not provide, and school staff will not apply sun protection cream.

Students who are involved in throwing water and ‘water fights’ will be dealt with through the usual sanctions. It is antisocial, unhygienic and uncomfortable to be sat in wet clothes and thus we do not allow water fights to take place in school.

Thank you for your support in this.
