Paper Cities

Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th May, a dozen Year 8 students had the chance to work with Emergency Exit Arts on their Paper Cities’ project to create a new piece of choreography for film.

Below are the thoughts of one of the dancers – Miriam Lawall of 8MK.

Question: Did you enjoy the project?

Miriam: Yes I did!

Question: Why?

Miriam: It’s different from our normal dance lessons, and although some things were similar – I know that – it was a different experience with a choreographer from outside, from Germany. And, I liked the Paper Cities topic, and the fact that it was about…..Life!

It pushed me out of my comfort zone, for example there was one piece that was very dynamic -  one minute you were in the air, then you were back down, and then in the air again. It was a challenge – how you did that.

Question: What did you make of the filming?

Miriam: Really good. It was very quick. You needed to know where you were and what you were doing. And, we had to repeat things so the cameraman could get the shot. You had to know what you were doing, and be ….. ‘on it’ and ready; everything including facial expressions.

Question: Would you do something like it again?

Miriam: Perhaps – I really enjoyed it, and I was surprise at how much I enjoyed it.  (smiles).

Questioner: Thank you Miriam.
