School Governors

Plumstead Manor School - Governing Body

Welcome to the governance section of Plumstead Manor School.

Our Governors are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and bring a range of skills and experiences to the role from within and outside the sphere of education. We also participate in rigorous induction and ongoing training as part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich Education Service.

We aim to be representative of all the key stakeholders in the Plumstead Manor community including parents, staff, Local Council appointees and wider members of the community.

As Governors our guiding principles are success, harmony excellence and justice. These values reflects the skills and qualities we believe young people need to thrive and succeed in the 21st Century, and which we see as being the centrepiece of a Plumstead Manor education. We play a significant role as part of the leadership and management structure of Plumstead Manor School and exercise oversight and challenge in a non-executive capacity to the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team. One of our key responsibilities is to set the strategic direction, ethos and vision for the school. We also act as critical friend, offering both challenge and support to school leaders. We seek to bring a perspective, rigour and expertise beyond education to the table. Maintaining our accountability to the local community and to the standards of public life are very important to us and we take our duty and responsibilities as Governors very seriously.

We also support the school by participating in events and acting as ambassadors for the school in terms of communications and in using our own resources to enhance the opportunities available to the young people in our charge.

If you would like further information regarding the work of the board of Governors or would like to contribute to our work, then please contact our clerk at carol.ladbrook@royalgreenwich.gov.uk

Community Governors:

Ms M Ferrara (Staff)

Ms M FerraraI have worked at PMS for 10 years and have a 100% attendance record. I came into the education sector later in life as I stayed at home for 20 years raising (and educating) my four children. My daughter was home educated before attending a local grammar school. I had always wanted to be a teacher but the pull to be a mother was stronger! As an HLTA I have the opportunity to teach small groups which I find both challenging and rewarding.
I applied to become a staff governor as I am always looking for the next adventure and I wanted to be the voice of the non teaching staff members. The next 4 years will be exciting.....

Mrs K Harrison

I feel that I can bring valuable knowledge and experience to Plumstead Manor School. I hold a BSC Psychology degree and I am currently studying for an MSC in Educational Psychology at the Institute of Education.
I work as a primary school teaching assistant supporting children with SEND.

Mr J Ayanda

Teaching was my first career in life and education remains topmost in my heart. With a wealth of experience and exposure to banking and commerce come high volunteering community services hitherto, I have unique contributions to further raise the good name of Plumstead Manor School.
Hard work, diversity, sound morals and self-discipline that will accelerate student success will be promised.

Ms S Le Bas (Chair)

I have been a governor in Greenwich Schools for over 20 years. Beginning at Fossdene Primary and joining the Governing Body of Plumstead Manor at the turn of the Millennium. In both cases I started as a parent Governor seeking to support the staff who taught our children. As they moved on to university I became a co-opted Governor to support the school and the community where we live. In that role I supported the school in chairing the Specialism Committee. I became Chair of the Governing Body in the Autumn of 2015.
Professionally I have worked as a Primary teacher within Greenwich for 15 years. I now work, part-time in the voluntary sector as member care officer for iNet. Through iNet I also connect with a volunteer team helping to train teachers South East-Asia. I have also undertaken some short term cover roles in local schools but have no plans as yet in place for the autumn term.

Ms H St Clare

I have been a Governor at Plumstead Manor School since October 2007. Before this I was worked Greenwich LA as the Virtual Head for Looked After Children for two years after my retirement as Headteacher at South Rise Primary in Plumstead.
Prior to my retirement I had been working in Education for more than 40 years. When I retired I decided to offer my services as a Governor because I had always enjoyed working with young people and believe that seeing them develop their learning and skills was a great privilege. I am also a Governor at Nightingale Primary School.
At Plumstead Manor I am the Chair of the Learning and Achievement Committee and Vice Chair of Governors. The Committee supports the school staff in ensuring that pupils achieve to the very highest standards. We hear directly from the staff about the work they are doing, the achievements of the pupils and offer support in any way we can.
All Governors are linked to a special area of interest and I am the named Governor for Special Educational Needs (SEND) and Safeguarding. I try and visit the school as often as I can, especially for special events.
